Yngvild Berggrav

Yngvild Berggrav is a Norwegian national, married with two grown-up sons. She is a senior diplomat with more than 25 years of experience in the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA). Since 2024, she has served as Senior Adviser in the Section for Peace and Reconciliation. Prior to this, she was Chargé d’Affaires a.i. in Damascus, Syria (2021–2024), following five years as Policy Director in the MFA’s Section for Humanitarian Affairs (2016–2021).

Earlier positions include Senior Adviser in the same section (2011–2016), Deputy Head of Mission at the Norwegian Embassy in Bogotá, Colombia (2009–2011), Adviser in the Section for Humanitarian Affairs (2007–2009), and Adviser in the Section for Development Policy (2005–2007). She also served as Embassy Secretary at the Norwegian Embassy in The Hague, Netherlands (2002–2005), and held several early-career diplomatic positions, including Attaché/Diplomatic Trainee in Oslo (1999–2002) and Attaché in the Section for Latin America (1998–1999).

Before joining the diplomatic service, she was President of the Norwegian Student and Academics International Assistance Fund (1994–1996). From 2019 to 2022, she was a member of the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) Advisory Group. Ms. Berggrav holds a Master’s degree in Social Geography from the University of Oslo (1997) and is fluent in English and Spanish, with some working knowledge of French. She was born 14 April 1968.
