Building the partnerships, data systems and practical programmes needed to accelerate low-emission freight across East Africa.

Katie Mumbua is the East Africa Project Manager at Smart Freight Centre, where she leads the organisation's regional portfolio to accelerate the transition to low-emission freight and logistics across East Africa.

Katie works with governments, development partners, shippers, transporters, industry associations and private-sector organisations to develop initiatives that advance freight decarbonisation, strengthen market readiness and support sustainable transport.

Her portfolio spans emissions measurement and reporting, fleet efficiency, electric-truck deployment, transport data systems, capacity building and stakeholder ecosystem development. She leads the Green Freight Support Program for East Africa, a partnership between Smart Freight Centre and the Kuehne Climate Centre.

Katie also contributes to regional work on sustainable freight policy, investment readiness and market transformation. Her approach connects technical evidence with the institutions and commercial actors required to move electric freight projects into implementation.

With nearly a decade of experience in strategy, programme management and organisational development, she focuses on collaborative solutions that improve the competitiveness, resilience and environmental performance of African freight systems.
