Javan Odenyo is a Research Associate in the Inclusive Health and Sustainable Cities programme at Stockholm Environment Institute Africa.
His work focuses on how cities can become healthier, more inclusive and environmentally sustainable, with particular interests in air quality, sustainable mobility, energy access, urban systems and the links between environmental change and human wellbeing.
He has more than seven years of experience in applied research, policy analysis and project coordination across Kenya and the wider region. His work has included air-quality monitoring and policy development, sustainable and electric mobility, decentralised energy planning, and research on urban consumption and the environmental impacts of used textiles.
Before joining SEI, Javan supported stakeholder engagement and policy processes through the Council of Governors, working on energy, transport and infrastructure across Kenya's 47 counties. He also contributed to clean-energy and development initiatives through the UNDP Sustainable Energy Hub.
He holds an MSc in Energy Management from the University of Nairobi and a BSc in Chemical and Process Engineering from Moi University.
