Making charging
work for everyone.
Connecting electric-vehicle charging standards with the everyday needs of drivers, infrastructure operators and power grids.
Jan Tore Gjøby is an electric-mobility and smart-energy advisor and the founder of Gjøby Consulting in Norway. Since entering e-mobility in 2011, he has worked across charging infrastructure, vehicle-grid integration and technical standardisation.
His first e-mobility assignment involved coordinating the deployment of one of Norway’s earliest DC fast chargers. He later contributed to the launch of major Nordic charging networks, including Fortum Charge & Drive, now Recharge, and Ionity.
Jan Tore chairs the Norwegian national committee that mirrors IEC Technical Committee 69, which develops international standards for electric-vehicle charging. He also contributes to standardisation work within CENELEC and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe.
With a background in electrical engineering and industrial IT, and more than 500 courses and presentations delivered, he brings together technical standards, user experience and the operational realities of charging-network and grid operators.
At the Africa EV Summit 2026 in Addis Ababa, Jan Tore contributes a practical Nordic perspective to discussions on interoperable charging, reliable infrastructure and standards for Africa’s growing electric mobility ecosystem.
