Herman Sips is Head of East Africa and Financing Logistics Decarbonisation at Smart Freight Centre. He leads regional initiatives that accelerate the transition towards low-emission freight and logistics systems across Eastern Africa.

His work brings together governments, logistics operators, shippers, financiers, development institutions and private-sector partners to create commercially viable pathways for decarbonising road freight and scaling zero-emission transport solutions.

With extensive international experience in sustainable transport, clean energy and climate finance, Herman specialises in financing models that support electric trucks and other low-carbon freight technologies. He works across policy, investment and implementation, helping transform climate ambitions into bankable projects.

At Smart Freight Centre, Herman leads the Green Freight Support Program in Eastern Africa. Developed with the Kuehne Climate Center and regional corridor institutions, the programme advances capacity building, emissions transparency, fleet efficiency, ecosystem development and the deployment of zero-emission trucks along major transport corridors.

At the Africa EV Summit 2026 in Addis Ababa, Herman joins the panel on Transport Corridors and Heavy-Duty Electrification, exploring the infrastructure, partnerships and financing required to build connected and lower-emission freight systems across Africa.
