Erik Lundberg is Ambassador-Designate of Finland to Ethiopia. He previously served as Deputy Director General for Political Affairs at Finland’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs from July 2022.
From 2018 to 2021, he served as Finland’s Ambassador to Kenya, Somalia, Uganda, Eritrea and the Seychelles, as well as Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme and UN-Habitat. His earlier foreign postings include serving as Finland’s Ambassador to Norway, leading sustainable-development and human-rights work at Finland’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, and diplomatic assignments in Strasbourg, Canada and Syria.
At the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Helsinki, Erik has served as Ambassador for Inclusive Peace and Security and Director of the Unit for Human Rights Policy. He has also held expert roles in political affairs, international trade and the Legal Service.
Erik joined Finland’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1995. He holds an MSc in Political Science from Åbo Akademi University in Finland.
