Dr. Dawit H. Gebremeskel is an Assistant Professor of Electrical Power Engineering at Addis Ababa University. His work specialises in energy-systems modelling, transport electrification and techno-economic analysis using open-source tools.
His research develops cost-effective pathways for sustainable electricity and electric mobility in Ethiopia and sub-Saharan Africa. This includes EV-charging infrastructure planning, transition-pathway analysis and spatio-temporal assessment of charging demand and its impact on the power grid.
Dawit has led major research initiatives, including the OpenMod4Africa project at Addis Ababa University. He also played a key role in establishing the African Energy Modelling Network, where he currently serves as Co-Chief Officer.
His research has been published in peer-reviewed journals and helps strengthen evidence-based energy and transport policy across Africa.
At the Africa EV Summit 2026 in Addis Ababa, he joins The Power of Research and Academia breakout to explore how research, modelling and open data can support Africa's electric-mobility transition.
