Connecting the Horn of Africa Through Electric Mobility

The Road to Africa (Djibouti–Mombasa) expedition will take place immediately following the Nordic-Africa EV Summit in Addis Ababa, travelling from Djibouti through Addis Ababa to Nairobi and onward to Mombasa.

The expedition explores one of East Africa’s most important trade and logistics corridors, documenting the opportunities and challenges of electrifying regional transport while engaging governments, utilities, industry, investors, development partners, and local communities along the route.

Building on the momentum of the Summit, the journey will showcase the rapid progress being made in electric mobility across the region while strengthening collaboration between the countries connected by this strategic corridor.

WHY A SECOND JOURNEY

The Djibouti–Addis Ababa–Nairobi–Mombasa corridor connects two of East Africa’s most significant ports with major economic and industrial centres, making it one of the continent’s most important gateways for regional trade and connectivity.

As electric mobility continues to accelerate across Africa, the expedition will assess infrastructure readiness, charging availability, cross-border operations, freight logistics, and policy frameworks while demonstrating the viability of long-distance electric transport across the region.

More than a demonstration drive, Road to Africa (Djibouti–Mombasa) serves as a platform for dialogue, knowledge sharing, and partnership building, generating practical insights that support the development of resilient, connected, and sustainable transport corridors across Africa.
